Dios y Sus promesas, ¿Cómo resistirse a Él?. Expect the Unexpected

Life will be brighter than noonday,

and darkness will become like morning. Job 11:17

This was a verse that a good friend of mine shared with me when I told her about my recent mission trip in Mexico with FXMissions. I told her how real I felt the Love of God, pour over me as I determined at the last moment to join the team on their trip into the interior of Mexico. They were visiting Esperanza Viva Youth Home in Matamoros to spend some time with the youth before leaving for their trip.

When God opens doors that He wants you to walk through you really can’t say no! There are times when you are not sure if it is God but this was definitely not one of them I could clearly hear the Holy Spirit speaking to me and inviting me to partner with Him …I couldn’t resist this invitation! How pleasant it is to walk in God’s perfect will! God and His promises, how can you resist Him? [Read more...]

A Different Mexico / Part V

(Taken from Ken Brooks’ blog – FIMUpdate – this post is part 5 in his Mexico Series.  Get to the other posts here – FIMUpdate)

Previously, I mentioned a rather messy ride from Cuernavaca to Puebla. What would have been an hour and half drive by car, ended instead with 2 additional by bus. That wasn’t too huge a deal, save we had someone waiting at the station in Puebla to pick us up. And even that would not have been so bad, had the movies they aired over that long ride, lacked the strong, sexually, immoral overtones they did. Still, I rather enjoyed the newer, Spanish translation of “Planet of the Apes”. Would have watched it 3 times, in fact.

Jason and Cliff

For me, my outlet was a long, deep conversation with Scott. For others, worship music via an iPod/Phone, or other means, was a viable solution. We came up with other ideas, post travel; preparing in advance  what our plan of attack would be, should we encounter a similar situation. Funny thing was – we would! And having prayed ahead, the films aired on that next go round were of higher standards. Praise God! [Read more...]

A Different Mexico

A Different Mexico*

By Amy Layman

Three years ago God did a miracle in me. Thankfully, He’s not been lying dormant since then, but this particular miracle has really been on my mind the last couple of weeks. Three years ago God tore down walls I’d built up to keep Mexico out, and He filled me with love for this beautiful country and the amazing people who live there. So, when the opportunity came to go back, we went. Kyle&AmyThis time I was able to go without any walls, prejudices, or snobberies (that last one is probably closest to the truth), and God showed me yet another view of His Mexico. Our first stop was just across the border in Matamoros [Read more...]

The Road Goes On

Flying out today from the Mexican state of Oaxaca. Really good run so far. One more ministry stop and we are crossing the border tomorrow afternoon. Keep us in your prayers, as we are headed back into the more dangerous part of the country.

Blessings from the field.

Quick Mexico Update

Just a quick heads up for all you who are praying for us.  We really appreciate your prayers.

We are doing well and are in Cuernavaca at the moment.  We had the last few days in Northern Mexico, which is known for it’s insecurity and violence.  Thank the Lord, and the support of His praying people, we passed thru without incident.

Two things to mention:

1.  We have had a little sickness trying to come against us, and it looks like we have punched thru the other side.  Keep us in mind in prayer on this, as we are early in the trip.

2.  Our vehicle, which, as planned, we left in Monterrey when we flew out this morning, has developed a little noise [Read more...]

Approaching the Limits

We approach the border of Mexico, and as we do, we put behind us a fifteen hundred mile road trip. Won’t see that again for a few weeks, thankfully.

We have a great team. We have a great God, and His great love urges us forward to connect beyond the comfort and familiarity of home.

Some thousands of miles (which will largely be covered by plane) still lay ahead of us, what awaits us is not completely known. Matamoros, Monterrey, Cuernavaca, Puebla, Oaxaca, back to Monterrey.

Pray for us. We are hopeful about our time, and serious minded. Please pray that we will give and receive with an open and loving heart, and that God Himself will be glorified.

Updates forthcoming as access permits.

Many thanks,

-scott
