When the Son of Man is Revealed

So will it be on the day when the Son of Man is revealed………Luke 17:30

(I grabbed this verse out of it's context because it made me think of the Lord’s revealing in a different way, and I wanted to share this with you.)  The way this verse is worded makes me think of the idea differently.  The day of the Lord, the second coming, when Jesus returns…. they all sound different from “The day when the Son of Man is revealed…”

There is coming a day (a specific day to come) when the Son of Man (Jesus Christ in the cloak of humility) will be revealed in His glory(as the Son of God), in a wholesale way.  This is our hope.  When He is revealed, we will also be revealed with Him in glory.  We have died and our lives are hidden with Christ in God.  At this moment, Christ is hidden with God, and our true selves are hidden with Him.  A day of revelation is coming.  Today is not about us, and even this coming day is not our day of revelation, but the day of the revelation of Christ.  Seeing that we are hidden with Him, when He is revealed, will we be too.  So we will be revealed, also, on this day, tho it is His day of revelation.

Colossians 3:1-4  Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.

Some of the things that are being taught in our times suggest that today is the day of the revelation of our glory.  Kind of seems like what Satan said to Jesus, “If you obey me, I will give you this glory now.”  Jesus didn’t take the bait, and the day of His revelation is still yet to come.  We shouldn’t take the bait either.  We should be careful not to agree with those voices who are promising us glory now, in this life.  Jesus has passed from death to life, and us with him in the Spirit, but in this natural realm, our true glory in Christ is concealed, and will continue to be until He is revealed.

Jesus’ way of life was a way of obscurity during His time on the earth.  The principal theme of His life was obedience.  Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who being in the form of God… If you are not familiar with this idea, click here. His way of life is our example.  Now we know that Jesus was raised from death to life by resurrection, but even that reality was only shown to a very small number of people.  Even when His identity as the Son of God was vindicated by the Father by means of the resurrection of the dead, He did not go straight over to Pilate and the Pharisees and rub it in their faces!  His glory continued to be concealed for the most part.  Jesus was the first person raised in the way He has been raised, never to die again.  Death has no power over Him.  This shall also be true of us at His coming.

It is with the eyes of the heart that we can see His glory today, but the day is coming when His glory will not be hidden anymore.  For those who seek and find His glory during this age, it is real to us in our hearts, and the hope of the revelation of His glory is certain, tho we wait to see it’s full manifestation until it’s appointed time.

The book of The Revelation of Jesus Christ is a spiritual vision of this day.

2 Timothy 4:1  I solemnly urge you in the presence of God and Christ Jesus, who will someday judge the living and the dead when he appears to set up his Kingdom: (NASB says …and by His appearing and His kingdom.)  This verse gives us the context of His appearing.  This is when He will set up His kingdom, and begin to undo in the natural realm in a large / wholesale way, the effects of the fall of man.

The day of the Lord, the day when Jesus is revealed in  glory, is the day in which He will set up His kingdom, and when His reign will be established in the earth, as it now is in Heaven.  Matthew 16:27 (click here to read context) “For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and WILL THEN REPAY EVERY MAN ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS.”
