AdIx’s Nicaragua

LukeAnspach_Nicaragua_Web_06I recently had the pleasure of contributing an editorial piece about my experience in Nicaragua with their coffee culture to the online culinary magazine, Life & Thyme. They also published a number of my photographs documenting my experience.

I met so many wonderful people during my visit (like our friends Ixil and Adrian Borter, and the Torrez family, all of whom I write about in the story) and hope to continue going back and building those relationships over time. The whole experience in Nicaragua was amazing and there was so much more I wanted to share in this story but I hope that you enjoy the read and the photography.

Head over and take a gander: AdIx's Nicaraguan Coffee.

Consequences

Mexico City Undoing

DF1It was early 2005 and I was running like a live wire off the energy of a recent awareness of a call to missions. I was in one of the biggest cities in the world, the City of Mexico… helping to put on a conference in the north of the city. It was my first time in Mexico beyond the cities that skirt the Texas / Mexico border. I was an easy target for the Lord, tho at the time a clueless one.

Finding Life

Take my cup!
Take my cup!

The life that the Lord offers to us, which He refers to as “abundant life”, is not at all the life that the world offers.  The offer of this world is about promises to satisfy cravings of physical pleasures, of fulfilling our desires for everything our eyes can see, and about achievements and possessions we can take pride in.  Such promises (which are coming from the spirit of the age) are false and empty, as the eye cannot be satisfied thru seeing, or the ear thru hearing.  Satisfaction only comes from the heart, and that from within.  This inner life, in fullness and abundance, is what Jesus offers us. Execute the Basics of the Faith

Back In The Day
WAY Back In The Day, Pick Albert and Claim A Prize!!

When I was much younger, I played sports. One of the things that an athlete has to do is to execute the basic technique of his position. Simple things really such as how to stand or where to put your feet. After many repetitions, these basic things become second nature and no longer require thought. However, when a bad habit forms to take one away from the basic principles of the game, he has to recalibrate the basics. For instance, my favorite team in American football has recently had some issues with tackling. It is the most basic function of the game of football. Yet these professionals sometimes loose track in their great skills of strength, agility, and speed to execute the fundamentals of tackling and fail to stop players upon initial contact. Sometimes the professionals become distracted by the statistics and the achievements or even the next contract. But if they execute the fundamentals, these things will take care of themselves.
