Foundation…The Biggest Deal

I used to wonder what in the world a be-attitude was.  Jesus’ “Sermon on the Mount”, He delivered what was called “the beatitudes” or at least that was the title that was always at the top of this section in my bible.  I’ve always said that Jesus or the Bible doesn’t give us a description for how to “do” church, but rather how to BE the church.  You don’t really “go” to church, YOU ARE His church.  The whole purpose for Him creating man and for redeeming us after mankind fell from Him through sin was His intention for relationship.  He just wants to Be in you and for you to Be in Him.  There is a difference in being and doing.  Out of right BEING comes right DOING.

Matthew 5-7 is a full discourse from the first begotten Son of God about perspectives of life and what our perspectives and values should be in being a son of God.  Jesus’ words are foundational.  Jesus’ life and perspective is foundational.  He is the place that everything should be built from.  Jesus is our rock, our foundation for life, He is our everything.  All scripture is Holy Spirit “given and profitable for reproof and correction”, but Jesus’ words and demonstration should carry the highest level of significance.  His was the embodiment of the Word of God.  The Apostle Paul said, “No other foundation can any man lay than that is laid, Jesus Christ”.  There is lots of debate as to whether every word in the Bible was actually God talking.  Well it wasn’t.  There were even times when the Apostle Paul would say, “this say I, not the Holy Ghost, but I believe that I have the Spirit on this”.  That means, this is my judgment and God is not specifically telling me to say this, but I believe that I have His heart in the matter.  Well, Paul was a man, sometimes prone to his own prejudices and biases and culture in his writings.  That’s why the scripture speaks of rightly dividing the word of truth.  Jesus was not of any prejudices or biases.  He said only what the Father said and did only what He saw the Father doing (John 5:19 & 30).   We have to rightly divide the Word of God apart from religious presumption.  People will intimidate you with concepts and a wrong fear of questioning that take away your liberty to rightly divide the Word.  The truth is not afraid of questions.

The foundation for anything is the most important thing and it will determine the solidity of what is built upon it whether physically, mentally or emotionally, spiritually, or relationally.  Everything has a foundation.  Your life has a foundation; a value system of perspectives and priorities that determine why and how you live.  You have a system of importance in you that you do everything from.  At the end of Matthew Chapter 7, Jesus said, “If any man hears these words of Mine and does them, he is like a wise man who built his house on a rock and the rains descended and the floods came and the winds blew, and beat upon that house and it fell not; for it was founded on a rock.  And everyone that hears these words of Mine and does not do them is like a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand; and the rain descended and the floods came and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell and great was the fall of it.”

So, all of Jesus life; His words, His values, His actions are foundation for us to build our lives upon.  Jesus Himself is perfect theology.  If you are having an inner debate about something in life or even doctrinally, go back and study Jesus Himself, how He saw things, what His practices were in dealing with His friends as well as those who were aligned as enemies.  If you are wondering about healing, leading, forgiving, money, charity, marriage, enemies, slander …you name it, go back the life and words of Jesus.  You will find yourself there.  That’s what it means to be a follower of Jesus.

Only God, the Word in the Flesh could give a single discourse that takes less than 1 hour to read that will give you the answer, the right, transferrable perspective for every circumstance.  Wouldn’t you like to have one catch-all message that will give you God’s answer for any dilemma or guidance for perspective right where you are right now, no matter where you are?  Here it is.  If you bow your heart, you can find yourself somewhere, maybe several places in Matthew 5-7.  Now whether you choose to be a “wise man” or a “fool” is up to you.  God bless you in your walking this out.
